Written in the Land is the story of the life of Queenie McKenzie, this visually stunning book takes the reader on a journey through Queenie’s beloved ‘Texas Downs’. Queenie was an internationally recognised artist, an advocate of her people, a traditional ‘law woman’ and a truly inspirational leader.

During the establishment of a diamond mine, and until her death, she was very outspoken trying to educate people on the role she and the other women played in sustaining that landscape for generations and what the loss of that site meant to them. Queenie would say “it’s not that we want them to go away, we just want them to listen, and do it the right way”.
